According to Inc.com
Playing music can help adults with memory and can even strengthen reading and writing skills, overall confidence, makes us happy, reduces stress and increases blood flow to the brain even being capable of restoring the brain
Very much like children, we benefit, as adults, thanks to music.
Furthermore, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine, music is said to help keep the brain young during the ageing process and that means it helps if you even listen to music or play an instrument.
However, there has been negative effects of music on the brain and that is the emotional trigger that can dig up a nostalgic memory, according to THE STAR. But, they go back on themselves and explain another positive and that is the fact that music can actually help with memory, finding a familiar, nostalgic song can bring back a memory. I can personally agree to this, I could remember the bassline and guitar to Muse’s Muscle Museum (My favourite song), but could never remember listening to it for the first time. When listening to again when I was about 12, I remembered that I first listened to it when I was 4 years old in my old house in St Mellons’ on my birthday. So yeah, that’s true.
My parents, who are both carers for people with Alzheimer and dementia can confirm this claim of music helping with memory by seeing it first hand in their respective work places. They have witnessed formerly distant, socially silent old ladies suddenly spring into life by tapping their feet and singing along.
All the other claims about music being good for an adult’s brain, I can somewhat agree too, especially the emotional trigger as certain songs does certain things to my emotions. For example, Logic’s 1-800, makes me weep like a fisherman’s wife looking at a storm and Green Day’s King For A Day just makes me really happy to a degree that I can’t explain. It really helps with my emotions. Other songs that do this is
